My 429 SCJ Sportsroof was "Special ordered" in Nov of 1970 by a local dealership to be raced in the 1/4 Mile. The Driver was John Muff- The dealership Richard Ford of St Joseph, MI As of June 2008, it's best ET'S without modifications, is 13.49 Secs at 102mph in the 1/4 mile, on street tires.

Hood Locks were part of the Ram Air Hood. Ram air was an option on cars with a 351 ci or larger.

When Ram Air was an ordered option The hood was supposed to get the black out treatment. It is unknown if my car was originallt Blacked out but I like it!!!!

The Ram air option was identified with a J in the 5th digit of the vin for 429 Engines. The Vin also identified the differences in the style of car. 02 the 3rd and 4th digits identifies a mustang as a sportsroof also called a fast back. The Mach I designation is 05.

The SCJ Motor was different from the CJ motor. 375 advertised horses with ram air and 450 foot lbs of torque. Ram air did not make the car an SCJ. It was the drag pack option Which included modifications to the engine. Holley carb solid lifters (oil coolers were optional) + rev limiters on 4 speed cars.

Inside the cockpit is the Instrumention group. This was an option on all 71's

Here is a copy of the original factory invoice. Note the drag pack option indicating a Super Cobra Jet. 7 Gals of gas for 2 dollars an 33 cents--- WOW!!! Must have been high octane!! She rolled off the line Nov 27, 1970
